Kinky Boom Blows Them Away on Debut - Fourth Stakes Winner for Spirit Of Boom

Mark Smith - Saturday February 3

Tony McEvoy's highly regarded filly Kinky Boom made an emphatic statement at her career debut in Saturday's $250,000 Inglis Premier (RL) (1000m) at Caufield.

Settled back in last early by Craig Williams, Kinky Boom saved many lengths when sticking to the rail on the home bend.

Easy in the betting despite an easy eight and a half-length barrier trial win at Morphettville on Monday, Kinky Boom will now take her place in the $1.5 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 24 according to trainer Tony McEvoy.

'What does that say about racing in this country, it's just fantastic, anyone can be involved, a $40,000 filly by this young stallion who is doing tremendous things.

"I didn't expect her to be last early but it just shows the class of the horse and rider that she came through the field and was very impressive.

"That money gets us to the big dance. Three weeks out, it's too hard to pass up with a filly of this ability. If she's well I think we will be going to the Blue Diamond."

A $40,000 purchase by McEvoy Mitchell Racing out of the Phoenix Broodmare Farm draft from session two of the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Kinky Boom was the least expensive of the seven starters in the race.

"She came into my stable through Jenny McAlpine, who saw me at the sale in Melbourne, tugged at my coat and said to have a look at this filly that Scott (McAlpine) had brought down from Queensland," McEvoy said.

"I had bought a heap of horses and really didn't need another one. Scott McAlpine is a very good salesman I can tell you. She's a nice filly, presented well and she walked out nice. Scott said if I buy her he will keep a leg. It's just lovely with the McAlpines. We go back a long way with the Hayes family and it's just a really enjoyable result."

Kinky Boom is the third foal and second winner of the 4-time winner Kinka Rhode (Encosta de Lago) who was a $150,000 yearling who was later sold for just $600 at the 2014 Scone Thoroughbred Yearling Sale.

A daughter of the Listed stakes winner Centennial (Centaine), Kinka Rhode has a yearling colt by Turffontein in the Eureka Stud draft at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Kinky Boom becomes the ninth winner and fourth stakes winner from the first crop of Eureka Stud's highflying stallion Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo).
