New Season Juvenile Winner for Zousain

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 5

The first Australian two year-old race of the season was run in Brisbane at Doomben on Saturday with Zousain gelding Betterlucknextttime doing everything right to score a trouble free win.

Prepared by Liam Birchley, who has a great reputation for producing smart juveniles, Betterlucknexttime had the benefit of a good barrier and with a recent trial placing under his belt gave Nikita Berriman an easy steer to win the 1050m scamper by a length over the late close Crown the king, a son of first season sire Time to Reign.

erlucknexttime was a bargain basement $3,750 purchase from the 2023 Inglis Digital August (late) Online Sale and has already repaid the investment banking $48,800 for his first win.

“He’s a beauty, we bought him as a weanling and I thought he was a steal,” said Liam Birchley.

“We’ve never had a minute’s trouble with him and I’m sure there is a lot more to come.”

Bred by Daandine Stud, Betterlucknexttime is a half-brother to Group III placed Marchena and is the third winner from stakes-placed Snitzel mare Flamenco Girl.

Zousain

Zousain stands at a fee of $27,500 at Widden Stud.
