Blue Gum Farm’s Flying Artie posted his first stakes-winner of the new season on Wednesday when consistent five year-old gelding Vast Art won the Listed Hannans Handicap (1400m) at Kalgoorlie.
Trained by Darren McAuliffe, Vast Art was a stakes-winner at three and although winless last season was placed on multiple occasions so was overdue to break back to winning form.
He powered clear to win by a length and a half taking his overall record to seven wins and eight placings from 22 starts with prizemoney topping $520,000.
Vast Art was retained to race by Impressive Racing and partners and is the best of four winners from winning Fastnet Rock mare Fast Gal, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Donna Dior.
Flying Artie will have a shot at Group I success this weekend with his quality sprinter miler Democracy Manifest to run in the $1.5million Group I Epsom Handicap
Completely free of Danehill blood, Flying Artie is a prove outcross sire and is priced to please at $16,500.
