De Bergerac Back On Track

Mark Smith - Thursday September 26

Placed in two of four starts since making a winning debut at Seymour last November, the well-related Zoustar gelding De Bergerac returned to the winner's circle over 1247m at Geelong on Friday.

Ridden by Michael Dee for Grahame Begg, the brother to Coolmore Stud Stakes runner-up C'Est Magique and a half to Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By, found the fast lane in the straight to defeat Fridge Monster (Overshare) with Supernima (Super Seth) back in third.

“It was a good watch. Mick sat back and brought him wide, which looks to be where you want to be on the track,” stable representative Rohan Huges said.

“Hopefully, that will do his confidence good. He has always been a nice horse. He just needed to be gelded. He is more tractable now.

“He takes a bit of winding up, so the big open spaces at Geelong suits him.”

A homebred for Neville Begg, De Bergerac is one of seven winners for the Tobougg (IRE) mare Yau Chin, a $3,000 Scone yearling, who won a maiden at Newcastle and placed a further six times in a ten-start career.

Yau Chin has a 3-year-old brother to Written By (Written Tycoon), who finished unplaced at his only start at Bendigo in April.

Yau Chin has a 2yo filly by Capitalist in training with Grahame Begg.

Yau Chin was promptly retired after foaling a Zoustar filly on August 12.
