Golden Rose Sires Where Are They Now?

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 24

Since the $1million Golden Rose was elevated to Group I status in 2009 it has been won in every single year bar one by a colt with the lone gelding to succeed being Manawanui in 2011, so we thought we’d take a look at the fortunes of the past winners who have gone to stud in Australia.

Widden Stud hit the jackpot in electing to stand Zoustar, who won the race in 2013.

Zoustar has emerged as a super sire with legitimate designs on the title of Champion Australian Sire.

The brilliant son of Northern Meteor has been a superstar at stud siring champion filly Sunlight in his first crop and a long stream of stakes-winners ever since with four Group I winners last season in Zougotcha, Joliestar, Ozzmosis and Climbing Star.

He looks primed for his best season to date after finishing second to only I Am Invincible on the Australian General Sires List in 2023/2024 by earnings and leading him by winners and stakes-winners.

The Autumn Sun has already sired three G1 winners!

At this time last year, The Autumn Sun and Trapeze Artist were at pivotal points in their stud careers with their first three year-olds about to be exposed and 12 months on both have Group I winners to their credit and in the case of The Autumn Sun, he has three of them!

Ole Kirk has his first 2YO's up and running fast!

It’s all just starting to get interesting for Ole Kirk and Bivouac, who will have their first runners this season and already Ole Kirk has made his presence felt with two smart heat winners at the official Sydney barrier trials on Monday.

Jacquinot has first foals being born this spring.

Jacquinot and In The Congo have first foals being born this spring and have let down into impressive stallions that were both much admired during that Hunter stallion parades this year.

Jacquinot covered 157 mares last spring and In The Congo 169 with both stallions set to cover at a slightly reduced fee this year.

In The Congo was the busiest first season sire in Australia last year.
