A quality packed catalogue for the NZB Ready to Run Sale is now online and in the lead up to the sale we’ll go looking each week for some horses of interest that jump out on pedigree for various reasons.

Ole Kirk made a name for himself at the highly anticipated official Sydney two year-old barrier trials on Monday morning with the Champion 3YO by Written Tycoon producing two impressive winners in King Kirk and O’Ole, who was the quickest filly of the session and equal fastest overall, read about them here.

Ole Kirk is an exciting young sire.

There are two entries for the Ready to Run by Ole Kirk, whose popularity may well have soared by the time they are offered for sale in late November.

Lot 122 is a colt from Press Box offered by Lyndhurst Farm. He is the second foal of a winning sibling to a pair of Group I winning colts in POress Statement and Pressday.

Lot 386 is a colt from Gheedaa offered by Lilywhites Lodge. He is the third foal of a metro winner that traces directly back to Group I winning filly Whisked, the dam of Champion Stayer Tie the Knot, a 13 time Group I winner of over $6million.

Golden Slipper winning Champion 2YO Farnan was the other first season sire to make a splash at the Sydney trials with his colt North England putting up the biggest winning margin of the morning with his facile victory, read about him here.

Farnan also has two entries that hold plenty of appeal.

Lot 120 is a gelding from stakes-placed Precious Sophia offered by Riversley Park. He is a half-brother to five winners from a grand-daughter of Group II winner Glory Girl from a family of speed stakes-winners including Unanimous, who is by Farnan’s sire Not a Single Doubt.

Lot 142 is a gelding from River Goddess offered by Woburn Farm. He is the third foal of a winning half-sister to Group I New Zealand Derby winner Crown Prosecutor from the family of Group I winning juvenile Captivant and Group II winning sire Headwater.

If you are more in the market for a classic type Kiwi staying prospect there are two in the sale bred on the same cross as last Saturday’s Group III MRC Foundation Cup winner Positivity (by Almanzor (Fr) from a daughter of O’Reilly) , whose victory has earned her a place in the Caulfield Cup if connections go that way.

Lot 22 is a gelding from Kyrie Eleison offered by Riverrock Farm. He is the third foal from a winning mare, whose grand-dam is blue hen L’Quiz, with the family featuring Group I winners Champagne, St Reims, Charmont  and NZ Horse of the Year Bonneval.

Lot 76 is a colt from Miss Selby offered by KB Bloodstock. He is a half-brother to three winners including Group II placed Lowe Flying and is from Group III winner Miss Selby a daughter of Group II winner Singing Star.

The 2024 edition of the Ready to Run Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from 11am (NZT) on 20 & 21 November with Breeze Ups to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 21 & 22 October.
