Redstone Well Brains Them in CTC Cup

Mark Smith - Saturday September 7

Runner-up in the Listed Canberra Cup in March, Redstone Well (IRL) went to a new high in his Australian career with an all-the-way romp in Saturday's Listed Sydney City Lexus CTC Cup (2400m) at Randwick.

Ridden by Tom Sherry for Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, the 6-year-old son of Cotai Glory (GB) had the field off the bit on the home turn and was never threatened to defeat Think 'N' Fly (So You Think) by four lengths with the favourite Strathtay (Preferment) back in third.

With his second win in Australia and first stakes, the Highclere Thoroughbreds colour-bearer advances his overall record to five wins, four seconds and two thirds from 21 starts with earnings of $432,995.

"It panned out well and it was an easier watch than the last time we tried him over 2400m," Annabel Neasham said.

"He was very keen that day, but I think he is just getting acclimatized.

"Tom got down to 53kg to ride him and he gave him a peach, rating him well.

"I was unsure he would run out the 2400m, but Robyn Hartney, who does a lot of our form, gave a big push to run here today rather than the Wyong Cup yesterday, which I was leaning toward."

The winner of three of his 11 starts in Ireland when trained by Daniel O'Sullivan, Redstone Well (IRL) is the 14th stakes-winner the Exceed And Excel stallion Cotai Glory (GB).

A dual Group III winner and placed in the Group 1 Royal Ascot King's Stand Stakes and York Nunthorpe Stakes, Cotai Glory (GB) stands at Tally-Ho Stud for €12,500.

Redstone Well (IRL) is the only winner from two to race for the unraced Papal Bull mare Pingin Rua, a half-sister to the Group III German stakes-winner Papagena Star (Amadeus Wolf), the dam of Listed winner Powerful Aggie (Protectionist).
