He’s a dashing grey just like his sire and blessed with an electric turn of foot which we saw today when he stepped up to 1400m for the first time.
D’Argento gelding Statuario was having his third start at Cranbourne following a second and eighth over 1200 and 1100m last month.
Ridden by Damian Lane, the Emma-Lee & David Browne trained Statuario settled back in the field and produced a dazzling finish when angled into the clear winning by half a length running away.
“He went great as he wasn’t entitled to win from where he was in the run,” said Damian Lane.
“He let down really good and was laying in up the straight just through greenness, so to finish as strong as he did was a good effort.”
An $18,000 Inglis Gold Yearling Sale purchase from the Bowness Stud draft for Toward Reward Thoroughbreds / Bluegrass Bloodstock / Sparta Racing, Statuario is the first winner for Miss Entice, a winning full sister to stakes-winner Boom ‘n’ Zoom.
Statuario is the fifth first crop winner for D’Argento and is his first of the new season.
A Group I winning son of So You Think, D’Argento stands at Bowness Stud at a fee of $16,500 this spring.
