One to Watch – Ballarat

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 24
With four winners since Sunday, Vinery Stud’s All Too Hard is chasing hard to catch his arch rival Pierro on the score of winners and one of those winners is our ‘One to Watch’ on Wednesday.

Messerschmitt as a yearlingTwo year-old colt Messerschmitt was fourth on debut in the Listed MRC Debutants Stakes in the spring and showed the benefit of a summer break when resuming from a spell to score a determined win at Ballarat.

Trained by Anthony Freedman, he travelled up on the pace and kicked on strongly to win the 1100 metre maiden by a short half head.

Messerschmitt was a $140,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Vinery Stud draft for Freedman Racing and is the second winner for Group II winner Night War, a half-sister by General Nediym to dual Group I winner Samaready.

Vinery Stud will offer the full sister to Messerschmitt at the 2018 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 547.

Night War produced a colt foal by Press Statement last spring and is now back in foal to All Too Hard.
