Six Length Debut winner for Zousain

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 23

Widden Stud’s Zousain had a super impressive debut winner on Tuesday with Laizabout opening up to win by six and a half lengths as favourite.

Trained by Wayne Wilkes, Laizabout bolted away with a barrier  trial at Taree earlier this month and reproduced that form on raceday at the same venue when lining up in a 1000m maiden to win as he pleased.

Laizabout showed a sharp turn of foot over the final furlong to gap his rivals giving the promise of more wins to come.

A $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Widden Stud for his trainer, Laizabout is the fourth winner from four  foals to race from Divine Nature, a placed three-quarter sister to Group III winner Sookie, the dam of dual Group I winner Shadow Hero.

Laizabout was a $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Widden Stud.

Divine Nature is also a daughter of Champion 2YO Filly Victory Vein, so quality is not lacking on the pedigree front.

Widden Stud sold another filly by Zousain from Divine Nature at Inglis Classic this year for $60,000 again to Wayne Wilkes and she has another weanling filly by the same sire to follow.

Laizabout is the ninth winner – one in NZ – for Zousain, whose talented Group placed filly Chateau Miraval won a trial at Rosehill on Tuesday morning as he prepares for spring goals.

Zousain stands at a fee of $27,500.
