Pedigree Watch – G1 Irish Oaks

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 21

What does the Irish Oaks winner have in common with one of the great Australian sprinters this century that won 20 races , seven of them Group I.

The Group I Irish Oaks (1m4f) was run at the Curragh overnight and with an open field and plenty of up and comers it looked as though Galileo would have his chance to get that milestone 100th Group I winner, but the Coolmore legend will have to wait for another day.

Galileo had race favourite Content and the Aidan O’Brien trained filly did run a terrific race for Ryan Moore hitting the line hard, but not well enough to overhaul Nathaniel filly You Got to Me.

Trained by Ralph Beckett, You Got to Me improved on her fourth placings in the Group I Epsom Oaks and Group II Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot to take the classic by three-quarters of a length with Hector Crouch in the saddle.

You Got To Me has had a habit of going a bit hard in her races, but is on the improve with three wins from six starts and more Group I goals ahead.

“She settled really well today. One thing we did differently was put the tongue-strap on her and it gave her something extra to think about and it made the difference,” said Beckett.

"Hector had to battle for every pocket and every bit of ground; but that's her, she's a battler. To do what she did at Lingfield, to run well at Epsom and again at Ascot, and then come here, all since the beginning of May, takes a bit of doing.”

“We have seen a difference in her over the last fortnight. She travelled over really well and got here in really good shape. She is in pretty much everything bar the St Leger. She could go for the Yorkshire Oaks and I think York will suit her well.”

You Got to Me runs for Valmont and Newsells Park Stud was purchased for 200,000 guineas from the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 by AC Elliott. She was previously sold as a foal at Tattersalls December for 62,000 guineas.

You Got to Me is the best of two winners from stakes-winning Medicean mare Brushing, who comes from the family of US Group I winner Relaxed Gesture with an offshoot of this family in Australia producing seven time Group I winning sprinter Buffering.

You Got to Me and Buffering share the same third dam Temporary Lull in an interesting piece of trivia!

You Got to Me is the ninth Group I winner for Galileo sire son Nathaniel, who stands at Newsells Park at a fee of £17,500.
