2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale Preview Screens Tonight

Media Release - Tuesday January 16

New Zealand's thoroughbreds continue to plunder Australia's great group 1 races so why not have a closer look at their future racetrack stars and race them in your colours instead!.

Caroline Searcy travelled to seven leading NZ thoroughbred nurseries and presents a collection of bluebloods and bargains from some of the best families in Australasia in the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale Preview from 7pm tonight on Sky Thoroughbred Central.

With the best Kiwi stallions and plenty of Australian sires represented there is a great mix of colonial and northern hemisphere blood guaranteed to flow through the veins of our next champions.

Cambridge Stud farewells it's legendary founder Sir Patrick Hogan with his final Karaka draft and the preview features a colt by champion sire Savabeel from Sir Patrick's champion filly Katie Lee as well as the great Eight Carat blood in two fillies from Diamond Like and Special Diamond, both fillies by Tavistock

Leading Karaka vendor Waikato Stud features a colt by their breed-shaper Savabeel from Group 1 winner I Do along with some fabulously athletic yearlings by their first season sire, dual-Doncaster winner Sacred Falls.

The Vela family's Pencarrow Stud offerings include an Ocean Park colt from filly of the year Insouciant, plus members of the great Ethereal and Grand Echezeaux family (and vision of the two former champion fillies now in their 20's)

The Oaks parade a Fastnet Rock filly from 7-time Group 1 winner Seachange and a Fastnet Rock 3/4 sister to Saturday 2yo winner Avantage.

Trelawney's segment includes a Savabeel - Boundless colt by NZ's champion sire from a NZ Oaks winner, while Brighthill Farm features a Swiss Ace half brother to Caulfield 1000 Guineas (G1) winner Aloisia.

And another newcomer to the Preview. Hallmark Stud show off a Makfi half-brother to Australian Cup (G1) and Makybe Diva Stakes (G1) winner Humidor, a Tavistock half-brother to champion filly Samantha Miss and an Ifraaj half-sister to Myer Classic winner I Am A Star.

And a great update for Hallmark as you can get a close look at the full sister (pictured below)  to Saturday's Levin Classic (G1) winner Age Of Fire, with the filly bred on the world famous Fastnet Rock - Galileo cross.
