Flying Artie Filly In Flight is Flying

Mark Smith - Saturday July 13

A $220,000 buy for Proven Thoroughbreds at the Adelaide Magic Millions, In Flight was the second most expensive filly from her sire Flying Artie's first five crops, and she is shaping up to be an inspired selection.

The Joe Pride-trained filly made it three wins on the bounce when humping 60kgs under Jay Ford in Saturday’s ASX Maurice Farhart (Bm72) over 1100m at Randwick on Saturday.

When balanced up, In Flight hit the line with gusto, defeating the Queensland invader Flag Hall (Starspangledbanner) by a widening two lengths with Kadall (Capitalist) back in third.

In Flight advances her record to five wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $386,250.

She was bred by Kerrie Tibbey’s Goodwood Farm, which has retained a share.

n Flight was an inspired choice for Proven Thoroughbreds, the same applies to Kerrie Tibbey’s purchase of In Flight’s dam Waveline (IRE) for a mere $10,000 on Inglis Digital when carrying the daughter of Flying Artie.

The dam of stakes-placed Waimea Bay (All Too Hard), Waveline (USA) was a stakes winner in the US and Group III placed.

The daughter of the outstanding broodmare sire Stravinsky (USA) is a half-sister to the prolific winner Eddie Haskell, whose ten wins were highlighted by the Grade III Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita.

A descendant of the magnificent racemare Waya,  Waveline died in 2023, and her final foal is a weanling colt by Rebel Dane.

Blue Gum Farm’s Flying Artie has sired a spate of winners since his daughter Asfoora scored a memorable win in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1000m) at Royal Ascot on June 18. The Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner stands for $16,500 in 2024.
