MM Legend Wins Magic Millions Off the Track Queensland Qualifier

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 12

Magic Millions boss Gerry Harvey has bred a lot of good horses that have achieved greatness on the track, but there must be a place on the honour roll at Baramul Stud for 15 year-old Mossman gelding Double Impact, who won the Queensland Qualifier for the 2025 Magic Millions Off-The-Track Cup.

24 horses and riders completed the course at the Peachester Lodge Festival of Showjumping at the Sunshine Coast on Thursday with the Top 10 going through to the final in January next year at the Gold Coast.

Double Impact and Wayne Crompton win the MM Qualifier at the Sunshine Coast on Thursday - image MM

Leading the field to take the win was Queenslander Wayne Crompton on his trusty gelding Double Impact, who he purchased as a yearling at Magic Millions back in 2010 for $35,000 from Baramul Stud.

Double Impact was trained throughout his racing career by Wayne’s wife Jackie and proved a success on the track with nine wins and 16 placings from 75 starts netting some $526,200 in prizemoney.

Double Impact was up and going at two winning his first two starts as a spring juvenile, earning a start in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic won by Karuta Queen and then returned to run in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

He trained on and on racking up with multiple stakes placings before retiring sound as a bell at age nine in 2018 to begin his new career as a showjumper with Wayne taking over his care from Jackie.

Double Impact shot to fame as a jumper winning the Just Raced category of the former popular Channel 7 show Jump Off in 2019 and has been a fast and careful competitor in his new career ever since. There could be no more fitting contender for the big prize at the Gold Coast in January.

Wayne Crompton purchased Double Impact as a yearling and what a horse he's been!

Eligible competitors must be directly or indirectly employed, hold ownership, or be a recognised retrainer within the Australian thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, along with competing on an eligible thoroughbred. View the full terms and conditions

There will be additional qualifiers later in the year in NSW and Victoria.
