Newgate Farm have always had a huge opinion of Group II winning sprinter Deep Field and when he was priced at $22,000 to kick off his career they faced an avalanche of interest from breeders.
He covered an astonishing 257 mares in his first season and then backed it up to cover 204 in 2016.
Those breeders would all be now feeling pretty good since the market obviously share their enthusiasm for the hulking sprinter, who broke track records at Randwick and Canterbury.
Deep Field had 39 yearlings average $219,231, his best result the colt from Reggae that made $675,000 for Kia Ora Stud early in the sale when secured by Orbis Bloodstock.
Deep Field had more yearlings catalogued for this sale than any other sire and finished fourth on the leading sire by aggregate list behind only I Am Invincible, Snitzel and Fastnet Rock, his 39 youngsters generating $8,550,000.
Second on the list was an interesting one with New Zealand based Windsor Park's shuttle sire Charm Spirit (IRE) making quite the impression with his four yearlings offered by Kitchwin Hills on behalf of Windsor Park. They averaged $216,250.
His top seller was this filly from superbly bred Fastnet Rock mare Bayrock, a placed full sister to Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Merchant Navy and Group II winner Jolie Bay. She made $300,000 when bought by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock.
A triple Group I winner by all conquering sire of sires Invincible Spirit, Charm Spirit has a bit to offer and NZB will be thrilled to see this sort of interest in the stallion who has over 50 yearlings to be offered in the upcoming Premier and Select Yearling Sales.
