Only six sires have produced 10 or more two year-old winners this season and Vinery Stud’s bargain priced Headwater is matching strides with the big guns in terms of ‘King of the Kids’.
The speedy son of Exceed and Excel added a new juvenile winner to the tally on Sunday when the Steve Farley trained Aquafire saluted as favourite at his third start in the 1020m dash.
A modest $5,000 purchase for his trainer from the Riversdale draft at the Inglis Scone HTBA Yearling Sale, Aquafire has already won over $25,000 in prizemoney.
Headwater has a good crop of 111 two year-olds this season and has sired 13 Australian winners from 28 runners that include stakes-winner Pure Aqua and metro winners Don’t Forget Jack and London’s Image.
Headwater has had a fee reduction this year and stands at $9,900 which is great value if you are looking for reliable speed and precocity on a budget.
