Australian Stud Book Red Flags –Something in the Pipeline

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 4

These stories are invariably popular and often shed light on why a stallion is doing what he is doing or what he might be expected to do in the future.

Blue Gum Farm’s Flying Artie made worldwide headlines last month when his fleet footed daughter Asfoora won the Group I King Charles Stakes (5f) at Royal Ascot with her success following on from that of Artorius, another slick sprinter by Flying Artie that placed in the Group I Platinum Jubilee Stakes (6f) in 2022.

An outstanding Group I winning sprinter that we never saw the best of, Flying Artie retired to Newgate Farm in 2016, which was the same year as Golden Slipper winner Capitalist and Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice.

The trio filled the trifecta in the race to be Champion First Season Sire in 2020/2021 and Extreme Choice and Capitalist remain on the Newgate roster, however Flying Artie found it hard to compete with his barn mates and the decision was taken last year to relocate him into Victoria with his dual Group I winning son Artorius taking his place at Newgate.

Victorian broodmare owners now have the opportunity to breed to a proven G1 sire that has a big crop of rising two year-olds to run for him that hold the promise to deliver more of the same quality that we saw from Flying Artie at the start.

Headlining that intriguing crop of rising two year-olds is the full brother to Artorius that sold for $350,000 at Inglis Easter to Aramco Racing with his list of top selling yearlings this year is below.

What we do know about the progeny of Flying Artie is that they train on and the Joe Pride trained three year-old filly In Flight is a name to keep an eye on going forward.
