Second Win for the Brave Shalaa Filly Winning Proposal

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 26

The 2-year-old Shalaa (IRE) filly Winning Proposal brought up a 300-win milestone for trainer Kristen Buchanan when earning a second win in four starts in the Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Hcp (1100m) at Warwick Farm.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, Winning Proposal fought valiantly under her top weight of 59kgs to deny the Too Darn Hot (GB) filly Vanessi by a half-length, with the Hellbent filly Scintilla coming from last to finish third.

Winning Proposal made a winning debut against her elders at Newcastle in January and was just one and a half lengths off the winner Fully Lit when fourth in the $2,000,000 Inglis Millennium at Randwick on February 10.

Given a 16-week break, the daughter of Shalaa was second on a heavy track at Wyong on June 6, finishing second to Hard Pick.

“She was just a lovely filly out of the box when she arrived, just a natural,” Buchanan enthused.

“She was impressive in the Millennium at her second start. She has the will to win.

“She is a little greyhound but is strengthening and improving.”

Winning Proposal a $50,000 Inglis Premier yearling

Winning Proposal was a $50,000 purchase for Vardy Thoroughbreds from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Bred by Echo Beach Bloodstock, Brian Singer, and Domenic Romanelli, Winning Proposal is the first winner from three to race for the winning More Than Ready (USA) mare Proposal.

A daughter of the Group 1 VRC Myer Stakes and Group 1 ATC Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Choice (Choisir), Proposal has a weanling colt by Star Turn and was covered by Headwater last spring.

Shalaa (IRE) stands at Woodsiode Park Stud in 2024 for $19,800.
