Kermadec Filly Island Dec Excites on Debut

Mark Smith - Thursday June 20

It’s all blue sky for the owners of the 2-year-old Kermadec filly Island Dec, who launched down the centre of the track from near last to make a winning career debut over 1000m at Kembla Grange on Thursday.

Ridden by Tommy Berry for Robert and Luke Price, Island Dec had one of the 11 runners behind her at the 300m before unleashing a withering finish to defeat the Written Tycoon debutant I Am A Winner by one and three-quarter lengths with the Unite and Conquer filly She Conquers back in third.

Bred by Musk Creek Farm, Island Dec was a $30,000 buy for her trainers from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

She is the second winner from as many to race for the winning Makfi (GB) mare Lis De Lune.

Island Dec a $30,000 Inglis Classic yearling

A half-sister to stakes-placed Lincoln Road (Swiss Ace) from Mill Park Stud’s prolific ‘Discreet family’, Lis De Lune was a $5,500 Inglis Digital buy for Glastonbury Farms in 2022.

Lis De Lune’s Headwater filly failed to make her reserve at the 2024 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, and she revisited Headwater last spring.

Island Dec is the first 2-year-old winner of the season for Darley Stud’s Kermadec.
