French Oaks Winner for Kingman

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 17

The Group I Prix de Diane (2100m) was run at Chantilly overnight and a blanket finish saw Kingman filly Sparkling Plenty snatch victory on the line and she is entered for the Goffs London Sale this week.

Trained by Patrice Cotter and ridden by Tony Piccone, Sparkling Plenty won her only two starts as a juvenile and has bene kept busy this year with the French Oaks her sixth run this year.

A last start winner of the Group II Prix de Sandringham over 1600m, she handled the rise in distance to score a head win over Churchill filly Survie.

kling Plenty is a homebred for Jean-Pierre-Joseph Dubois, who did offer the filly at the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale and took her home when she failed to meet her €600,000. She has since won five of eight starts and as a G1 winner is worth a lot more than her yearling reserve.

"It's unbelievable, I don't know what to say. My first thought is for Cristian Demuro who should have ridden but has an injured hand. But straight away we thought of Tony Piccone, who did such a good job with Sauterne (Prix du Moulin winner) last year,” said Patrice Cottier.

"She did it so well the other day that we said to ourselves that we have to go for the Diane and to work with the Dubois family—they have some magnificently bred horses—it's just the dream."

A three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner Sauterne (Kingman), Sparkling Plenty is a full sister to Group III winning colt Noble Truth and is from unraced Frankel mare Speralita, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Japanese Group I winner Soul Stirring (Frankel).

Speralita is also a half-sister to 2009 Champion French 3YO Filly Stacelita, a six time Group I winner that has proven a great success at stud and is the grand-dam of 2022 Champion Japanese 3YO Filly Stars on Earth.

How much for Sparkling Plenty?

Given the quality of her pedigree and her status as a Group I Prix de Diane winner Sparkling Plenty is going attract a lot of attention if she takes her place in the Goffs London Sale, click  to see her sale page.

Sparkling Plenty is the 12th Group I winner for Juddmonte Farms based Kingman and is also importantly the first Group I winner as a broodmare sire for their champion sire Frankel.

The Kingman x Frankel nick has produced five winners from six starters with two stakes-winners being full siblings Sparkling Plenty and Noble Truth.
