When US Group II winner Sharp Susan (USA) was offered at the 2012 Inglis
Australian Broodmare Sale by Tyreel Stud she attracted plenty of global
attention with Badgers Bloodstock securing the prized mare for $1,050,000.
Purchased on behalf of South African based Drakenstein Stud, Sharp Susan has
been at stud in Australia since then, but her offspring have been sent to South
Africa and include three year-old Street Cry (IRE) filly Oh Susanna, who beat
the older mares at Kenilworth on Saturday to win the Group I Cartier Paddock Stakes.
Trained by Justin Snaith, Oh Susanna was a winner at two and finished second in
the Group I Cape Fillies Guineas at her previous start.
She proved far too good in this 1800 metre assignment, powering clear at the
finish to win by a length and a half taking her overall record to two wins and
three placings from seven starts.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, before being sent to South Africa as a yearling, she is the third winner for Sharp Susan, whose first foal Indiano Jones was
Group II placed in the US and whose second, Biblical Susan, is a winner in
South Africa.
The current two year-old from Sharp Susan, a colt by Exceed and Excel, was sold
at Inglis Easter last year for $300,000 to Snowden Racing and was consigned by
Coolmore.
Sharp Susan produced a filly by Fastnet Rock in 2016 and was subsequently sent
to the Northern Hemisphere.
Oh Susanna has the honour of becoming the 20th Group I winner for Darley's much
missed Street Cry, the sire of our Australian Horse of the Year Winx.
