Welwal tops May (Late) Sale at $330,000

Media Release - Wednesday May 29

Trainer Mick Price believes his latest stable acquisition Welwal – who topped today’s Inglis Digital May (Late) Sale at $330,000 – has plenty of wins left in him and can’t wait to test out the dual Hemisphere Group performer.

AG Bloodstock was the official buyer of Welwal (Shalaa), the former French galloper who joined the Chris Waller stable ahead of the 2022 $10m Golden Eagle.

Welwal sold for $300,000.

Welwal was offered by Waller and the ownership group in today’s sale and will now be trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr in Victoria.

“Our form analyst identified its good form and I had an owner prepared to back that information,’’ Price said.

“He ran really well in the Scone Cup last start and hopefully we can continue to have him racing well into the future.’’

Today’s second-top lot was the 3YO Rapido (Capitalist), which sold to Hong Kong-based buyer AVA Bloodstock for $175,000.

Rapido, who has won his past two races for the Peter and Paul Snowden team, was offered by James Harron and the horse’s owners.

“It’s really exciting that Rapido has been purchased by Hong Kong interests, he’s an extremely progressive horse but just no longer fitted our colts partnership’s modus operandi,’’ Harron said.

“He’s won his past two starts here by a combined almost six lengths and I can see him playing a significant role on the Hong Kong scene in seasons to come.

“Our colts syndicate is looking for the next Capitalist or King’s Legacy and if it’s decided along the way that a horse like Rapido is going to be better suited as a gelding, we’re happy to go down that path and when needed, use Inglis Digital to find them a new home. It’s such a great platform to trade horses, it’s widely known now as the world leader in online sales and hopefully Rapido is the next pin up horse for the platform.’’

Welwal and Rapido were two of five horses to realise six figures in today’s sale alongside Srikandi ($160,000), Amuri ($155,000) and Monolink ($120,000).

The Inglis Digital May (Late) Sale grossed $3,636,999.

Entries for the June (Early) Sale are now open and will remain so until midnight on Wednesday (June 5).

The Sale will run from June 7-12.
