First Season Favourites –Magic Millions Weanlings

The Magic Millions National Weanling Sale showcased the progeny of many of our new first season sires and five of them had weanlings sell for $100,000 or more so let’s take a look at their top sellers.

Coolmore young gun Home Affairs was always tipped to impress and the dual Group I winning son of I Am Invincible did so with 16 weanlings averaging $189,688 and 12 of them sold for $100,000 or more with the star performer a filly from well related mare Witherspoon that made $430,000 for Newgate when bought by renowned pinhookers Silverdale Farm.

She is the second foal of Group III placed Exceed and Excel mare Witherspoon, a sibling to Group I winner Manuel and Group III winners Sun Patch and Taking Aim.

Home Affairs enjoyed 100% clearance and was the leading sire overall by aggregate with his weanlings selling for $3,035,000 and by average of the sires with three or more sold he was second to only Zoustar.

Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside had eight weanlings sell at an average $151,688 and had five sell for $100,000 or more with the best of them a filly from Pasar Silbano (IRE) that made $400,000 for Element Hill when knocked down to Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

She is a half-sister to Group II winner and budding young sire Zousain and is the last foal of the mare.

 

Darley’s Pinatubo (IRE) had four weanlings average $98,125 and did best with a colt from Group II winning Redoute’s Choice mare El Daana that made $200,000 for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds when bought by James Bester Bloodstock.

The colt is a half-brother to two time South African Group I winner Al Muthana and Group II winner Wawail.

 

Newgate Farm’s Wild Ruler had eight weanlings average $75,375 and his top seller was a colt from Katie’s Eyes (USA) that made $130,000 for Newgate when bought by Alma Vale Thoroughbreds.

He is the fourth foal of an imported stakes-winner that has already produced two winners.

 

Coolmore based St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) had eight weanlings average $54,563 and posted his best result with a filly from Kookie Gal (USA) that made $105,000 for Milburn Creek when bought by Glenvale Stud.

She is the first living foal of a stakes-winning import from a US Black Type family.
