Juvenile Trial Watch - Rosehill

Breednet - Friday May 24

The Rosehill trials on Friday weren’t big on numbers but they did give us the first look at a couple of impressive two-year-olds, one being the last foal of a Champion 3YO.

Regimental Colours is a filly by All Too Hard from Regimental Gal, who captured the imagination when, having been bought for $16,500 as a yearling at Magic Millions went on to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before taking the G1 Australia Stakes and G1 Lightning Stakes on her way to being crowned the Champion 3YO Filly in Australia.

Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Rachel King in the trial, Regimental Colours showed good gate speed before putting a gap on her opposition in a most promising fashion.

Heat 6

At stud Regimental Gal produced 10 live foals, including the G3 winner Lilliburlero.  Regimental Colours is her last, with Cressfield Stud calling full time on her career in 2021.

Cressfield indeed offered Regimental Colours at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale however she failed to meet reserve and now races in their colours.

Baker also produced another first time trailer in Stardeel who put a similarly impressive gap on her rivals, and in faster time than Regimental Colours.

Heat 7

A colt by Dundeel from the Star Witness mare Alta Stella, Stardeel was a $160,000 purchase by her trainer and Jim Clark’s Clarke Bloodstock from Newgate Farm at Magic Millions.
