First Winner for Pinatubo

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 17

The Champion European 2YO in 2019, Darley shuttler Pinatubo (IRE) has sired his first winner with the Karl Burke trained colt Andesite winning on debut at York overnight.

He was tenacious to the line for Daniel Tudhope scoring a short head win over Mohaather colt Yah Mo Be There in the 6f juvenile dash with a gap back to the third horse.

“He’s never been off the bridle at home so that’s the first time he’s been asked to do that,” said Karl Burke.

“You always wonder whether you’ve done enough with them, especially with the wet winter that we’ve had, so he’ll improve plenty for the run.

“He’s worthy of going to the Coventry (G2 Royal Ascot), but we’ll just see how he comes out of it.”

Bred and raced by Steve Parkin’s Clipper Logistics, Andesite is a half-brother to Group II winning sprinter Dramatised and is the third winner from stakes-winning Turtle Bowl mare Katie’s Diamond.

Pinatubo (IRE)

Andesite is the first winner among four runners so far for Pinatubo, who is due back at Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $55,000. The son of Shamardal has been popular covering 261 mares in his first two seasons here.

Pinatubo has five entries for the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
