Star of Monsoon, a Winner at Last

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 28
Newly gelded Star of Monsoon finally broke his maiden at start 17 at Gosford on Thursday after enduring one of the most frustrating runs of minor placings.

There has never been any question the son of Lonhro had good ability, but despite the best efforts of trainer Gerald Ryan and numerous jockeys he flatly refused to win a race.

LonhroGelded after finishing last to Rosehill in July, it was a new look Star of Monsoon that stepped out in the 1100 metre maiden and he duly saluted by half a length.

His overall record now stands at one and 11 placings from 17 starts!

A homebred for Teeley Assets, Star of Monsoon is a half-brother to Group III winner Precious Lorraine and stakes-winner Lucky Raquie from Monsoon Wedding, a Group II placed sibling to Group I stars Redoute's Choice, Platinum Scissors and Manhattan Rain.

He is the eighth winner for Monsoon Wedding, who made $2.3 million at the Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014 when bought by Coolmore.

She had a Pierro filly sell for $1.4 million at the 2016 Magic Millions. That filly, called Notting Hill, made her debut on Christmas Eve and finished an unlucky third at Taree for the Kris Lees stable.

Monsoon Wedding was exported to Ireland in 2015 and produced a Galileo colt in 2016.
