Juvenile Trial Watch – Canterbury

There were eight heats for two year-olds at Canterbury on Friday and with the rich Brisbane Winter Carnival on the horizon it’s well worth keeping an eye on the progress of these late season unraced juveniles that include the most expensive filly sold in Australia last year.

A $2.6million Magic Millions purchase for Yulong from Widden Stud, Zoustar filly Clean Energy is a full sister to Champion Filly Sunlight and is showing good potential for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. Having her third trial and second this prep, Clean Energy was quick to begin from in inside draw and led all the way forging clear to win by more than a length.

 

$2.6million Zoustar filly from Solar Charged, Clean Energy was the highest priced filly sold in Australia in 2023.

The yearling full brother to Clean Energy sold at Inglis Easter for $850,000 with the purchaser China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy.

Another unraced filly to catch the eye was the Michael Freedman trained filly Tehina, who was fourth in her only previous trial to Clean Energy and took good benefit from that outing to score a stylish win. The daughter of Toronado (IRE) was given a wake up by Tommy Berry and responded well to win by a length and a half.

 

Tehina was a $230,000 MM purchase for some good judges!

A $230,000 Magic Millions purchase from B2B Thoroughbreds for Demi O'Byrne/James Bester, Tehina is a lovely type of filly and is the second living foal of Group III winner Lyuba.

 

Unraced Written Tycoon colt Private Life was set a task in his first ever trial with a couple of tearaway leaders in his heat, but the Chris Waller trained colt knuckled down to the task and hit the line hard to catch another Written Tycoon colt Sovereign Hill, who won his only start back in October for Waterhouse and Bott.

 

Private Life was a $650,000 MM purchase from Arrowfield.

A $650,000 Magic Millions purchase for Tom Magnier from Arrowfield, Private Life is a half-brother to three winners from Group III winning Snitzel mare Aliyana Tilde, who also placed in the Group I ATC Australian Oaks and Sydney Cup.

Additional heat winners were: Madrina (Street Boss (USA), Bronco Revolution (Russian Revolution), Leconfield (Snitzel), Evenflow (Super Seth) and  Althoff (Written Tycoon).
