Churchill Filly Trafalgar Square Puts Them to the Sword

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 17

David Payne predicts a bright future for his 2-year-old Churchill (IRE) filly Trafalgar Square after she broke her maiden at start four in the Schweppes Maiden Hcp (1250m)  at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Not disgraced in the $1,000,000 Inglis Golden Gift and Group III Kindergarten Stakes, Trafalgar Square enjoyed a cosy run just off the pace and when eased out to find clear air by Chad Schofield, she quickly put the race to bed.

The daughter of Churchill (IRE) defeated the progressive Merchant Navy filly Aye Aye Captain by two and three-quarter lengths, with the Written By filly Glitterscript back in third.

“She was always going to be hard to beat if you see what she has been racing against,” Payne said.

“She has been a bit unlucky and a bit green.

“I think she is looking for a mile being by Churchill, so she has a bright future.

“We will see how she pulls up and go from there”.

A $19,000 weanling purchase on Inglis Digital, Trafalgar Square, was a $110,000 buy for her trainer when consigned by Telemon Thoroughbreds to Book 2 of the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Amnesiac was sold online for $600 and has not been covered in the past two seasons.

Trafalgar Square is the second 2-year-old winner of the season from four runners for Cpplmore Stud’s 4-time Group 1 winner Churchill (IRE).
