Making full use of an inside barrier, the 2-year-old Written Tycoon filly Rich Dottie never went around a horse to make a winning debut in the Sportsbet Fast Form Hcp (1000m) at Caulfield Heath on Wednesday.
Ridden by Michael Dee for Grahame Begg, Rich Dottie tracked the leaders, Mrs Archibald and Blue Renegade.
When Mrs Archibald rolled off the fence, Rich Dottie darted through to defeat the Blue Point first-starter Blue Renegade by a neck with the Starspangledbanner filly Mrs Archibald a short-neck back in third.
“It’s not easy for an inexperienced two-year-old having its first start to take an inside run, but she did a good job,” Begg said.
“He didn’t rush her, let her find her feet. A couple crossed her, and she relaxed well. I’m sure she will benefit greatly from the run. There are better things in store for her.
“We’ll let the dust settle and map something out for her.”
A $260,000 purchase for Yu Long Investments from the Evergreen Stud Farm draft at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Rich Dottie was among eleven Written Tycoon yearlings purchased by Yulong at the sale.
The stylish chestnut filly is the first foal of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Dorothy Of Oz.
A winner at Warwick Farm and Hawkebury in 13 starts, Dorothy Of Oz is a sister to the Thewizardofoz, A Group III winner in Hong Kong, where he was the Champion Griffin in 2014-15, and a half-sister to dual Group III winner and multiple Group II-placed Argentia (Frankel).
