Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 22
Four juvenile heats on Friday morning at Rosehill produced some promising winners, but none more so than the second foal of John Singleton's champion mare More Joyous.

Her first foal is three year-old Frankel filly Woman, who is prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and won on debut at Canterbury in September.

Fastnet Rock is the sire of promising colt More Sundays Her second is this Fastnet Rock colt named More Sundays that was interestingly given to Bjorn Baker to train.

Baker sent him out in public for the first time on Friday in a 900 metre heat and there was a lot to like about his win.

A touch slow to begin for Jason Collett from the inside gate, More Sunday soon mustered speed along the fence to be third in running.

When the leader drifted off the fence, More Sundays powered through the gap under his own steam to score an impressive three quarter length win in 53.70 seconds, the fastest time of the four heats.

Whatever way you look at it, More Sundays looks a promising sort, although will be going well to outdo his dam who won 21 races and $4.5 million!

More Joyous has no yearling, but did produce a colt for Strawberry Hill stud this spring.

Other juvenile trial winners were Meryl (Epaulette), Misteed (Exceed and Excel) and Burbank (Sizzling). Click here for all the results.

The fillies heat won by the Lee Curtis trained Meryl looked a strong one given the winner ran well at her only start finishing sixth to Satin Slipper in the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes beaten two and a half lengths after leading for home.

The daughter of Darley first season sire Epaulette led again in this heat and was too good for $1.7 million Inglis Easter purchase Estijaab (Snitzel x Response) with spring stakes-winner Nomothaj ridden quietly into fourth place five lengths back.
