MM Wyong 2YO Classic the Best So Far

Clinton Payne - Wednesday December 20

Thursday marks the 10th running of the rich $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1000m) and the race is shaping as the best quality renewal we've seen.

The Wyong Magic Millions race has produced two Magic Millions 2YO Classic winners – Capitalist in 2016 and Karuta Queen in the race's second year, 2010.

This year the field includes impressive Max Lees Classic winner Jonker, dominant Magic Millions Clockwise Classic winner La Pomme de Pin, Breeders Plate placegetter Bondi and some highly-touted first starters.

$300,000 MM purchase Terminology as a yearlingOne of those first starters is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Terminology which has been installed the favourite for the race.

Terminology will be chasing Waterhouse's third win in the race and her first since gun racehorse Sweet Idea was successful back in 2013.

Terminology has been at the centre of a strong betting push to win the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast in January since the daughter of Star Witness scored a 10-1/4 length trial romp over 900m at Rosehill on December 8.

Multiple betting agencies reported large bets on Terminology, including $2000 at $26 and $5000 at $11 and the filly is currently on the third line of betting at $9. She is the $2.70 favourite for Thursday.

"Both her trials have been impressive, but she did everything so naturally the second time," Bott said.

"She is a big girl, probably bigger than most of the colts in the yard so naturally in the second trial she was a bit fitter.

"We knew she could certainly gallop because she'd been doing it easily at home and gave us further insight of what she's capable of in that trial.

"We wanted to give her a good test in her second trial so we could have her forward enough for this race, to get her up to the Gold Coast which would be her main aim."

Bott said Terminology showed from day one she could be one of Tulloch Lodge's better two-year-olds of the season but a big frame meant a cautious approach was adopted by the stable.

"We hadn't pushed her too early because of her size but over the past four weeks or so she's really started to show us what she is capable of," he said.

"We've stripped all the weight off her and we've asked a bit more of her and she's delivering.

"We've always through she was one of the more natural and precocious ones we've got and now we're starting to see her level which looks to be better than average and we'll learn more on Thursday."

Tim Clarktakes the reins aboard Terminology on Thursday when the Wyong Magic Million 2YO Classic jumps at 4.15pm.
