Inglis Australian Weanlings Online - First Look at New First Season Sires

Media Release - Sunday March 24

Weanlings by over 100 different stallions including the likes of Frankel, I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Zoustar, Written Tycoon and Proisir headline a fantastic catalogue for the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, which is now available online.

Group One 2YO winner Captivant has 15 from his first crop at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale

A total of 448 weanlings have been catalogued for the two day auction, which will be held at Riverside on Monday May 6 and Tuesday May 7.

It begins a huge week of breeding stock sales at Riverside, which also includes The Chairman’s Sale (Thursday May 9) and the Australian Broodmare Sale (Friday May 10).

On the racecourse and in the sale ring, the success enjoyed by recent graduates of the Australian Weanling Sale has been nothing short of incredible.

The most recent headline act has been Hayasugi, the G1 Blue Diamond-winning 2YO who was secured at the 2022 renewal of the sale for just $47,500.

Kimochi – the star G1 filly and $1m earner already – was purchased for just $21,000 at the 2021 sale and is now one of the leading and most valuable 3YOs of her generation while high-class 2YO Straight Charge, G3 winner and winner of three of his four starts Master Fay, recent Stakes winner Brudenell as well as Coin Toss, Live To Tell, All That Pizzazz, Cardinal Gem, Strait Acer etc are other recent high achievers to emerge from the sale.

The sale also has an incredible track record for pinhookers - out of last year’s renewal alone are results like $105,000 into $500,000, $62,500 into $400,000, $180,000 into $475,000, $105,000 into $350,000, $255,000 into $500,000 etc.

As always, the Australian Weanling Sale also gives buyers their first look at the new crop of first season sires coming through and this year’s catalogue includes progeny of exciting young stallions such as Aclaim, Acrobat, Captivant, Extreme Warrior, Home Affairs, Jonker, Palace Pier, Pinatubo, Portland Sky, Profiteer, St Mark’s Basilica, Stay Inside, Tiger of Malay, Wild Ruler, Wooded etc.

Also in this year’s catalogue are weanlings by the likes of Wootton Bassett, Toronado, Street Boss, Deep Field, Dundeel, Capitalist, So You Think, Shamus Award, Night Of Thunder, Russian Revolution, Pierro, Fastnet Rock, Spirit Of Boom, Maurice, Harry Angel, Pride Of Dubai, Pierata, Alabama Express, Hellbent, Too Darn Hot, Zousain, Tassort etc.

“This is a progressive sale that continues to gain greater and greater traction in the market, which is hardly surprising given the success of the sale in recent years,” Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said.

“Vendors have been consistently encouraged by the large buying bench that engages with the sale, which in turn has resulted in excellent returns for vendors.

“It is a convenient sale for so many at a complex that they recognise as world-class, so people are supporting it in quantity with ever increasing quality.

“Given the recent success of graduates of this sale both on the racetrack and in the sale ring it is easy to understand why the sale is so popular with buyers – whether it is traders or end users.

“Opportunity abounds at that time of the year and we are looking forward to welcoming buyers from across Australia and beyond to Riverside for the sale.’’

All weanlings sold at the Australian Weanling Sale are eligible for the $12.55m Inglis Race Series – at a discounted price - which features the $2m Inglis Millennium for 2YOs as well as the $5m Xtra Bonus Series and $1m Pink Bonus, the most lucrative female incentive scheme in world racing.

Supplementary entries for the Australian Weanling Sale remain open until April 26, as will entries for the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale to be held at Oaklands on June 13 and 14.
