Snitzel Flyer for Waller

Ben Dorries, Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 13

Chris Waller unleashed one of his potential Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic contenders in a Doomben trial on Tuesday and the reports were "the filly doesn't know how good she is."

Unraced Vitesse, a $500,000 buy at January's Magic Millions Yearling Sales from the Arrowfield Stud draft, showed glimpses of good ability when she was beaten ¾ length behind rookie Kelly Schweida colt Speedgun in an 840m 2YO trial at Doomben.

Third in the trial was Pony Power, beaten just over a length, and Chris Munce's filly won on her racetrack debut on the Gold Coast in October

Vitesse as a yearlingVitesse is a daughter of Snitzel from Sananda (IRE) and is part-owned by Qatar Bloodstock.

She she seemed to float a bit before the turn and got a bit lost before she attacked the line well in the last 50-100m.

Chris Waller's man in Queensland, his Gold Coast stable manager Paul Shailer, described the filly's trial as "super."

Waller has never won the 2YO Magic Millions but is keen to fill a rare gap in his training resume, setting up a Gold Coast satellite stable easier this year to target the lucrative carnival next month.

"Vitesse has great ability but the filly doesn't know how good she is," Shailer said.

"She showed good gate speed and could have led but Michael Cahill eased her out of the speed battle and then she got in behind them and looked a bit new.

"She worked home nicely under her own steam.

"Five strides after the post, she was ahead."

Vitesse, currently a $41 chance inCrownbet's all-in market for next month's Magic Millions, will trial again at Deagon next Tuesday.

From there a plan will be made as to whether she aims for the Magic Millions or is held back for the Golden Slipper in March.

Vitesse needs prizemoney to climb into the Magic Millions field and there is a 900m race at the Gold Coast on December 23 or the Group III BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) a week later at Doomben which she could potentially contest.

"We will take her back to the trials at Deagon next week and I think you will see a lot of natural improvement there," Shailer said.

Speedgun (More Than Ready x Starwish) , which won the 840m trial in a time of 51.52 seconds, has been nominated for Saturday's Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1110m) at Doomben.

The other 840m 2YO trial at Doomben on Tuesday morning was won by filly Yamazaki for Eagle Farm trainer Chris Anderson.

The Real Saga filly, who ran a winning time of 51.39 seconds, was a $40,000 buy at the March Magic Millions Sales and Anderson is hoping to get her to the rich race.

"We always bought her with the mindset of being a Magic Millions horse but we will do what is best for her now, " Anderson said.

"We will see how she pulls up and then take things from there."

Four-year-old Queensland mare Candika, not seen since running eighth in the Group II The Roses at Doomben in May, was an impressive 2 1/2-length winner of a 1000m Open Trial.
