$180,000 Russian Camelot Filly Sells at Adelaide MM

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 18

The highest price for a first season sire on the opening day of the Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale was achieved by Widden Stud’s dual Group I winner Russian Camelot (IRE), whose filly from Shakespearean Lass sold for $180,000.

Consigned by Widden, the good looking bay was bought by Griffiths de Kock Racing/Peter Ford T'Breds (FBAA)/Yabby Dam Farm and is a half-sister to metro winner Hamlet Von Snitzel and also this season’s stakes-placed two year-old filly Tobeornottobe, who was second in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Preview.

Tobeornottobe is prepared by Griffiths De Kock Racing which is probably a clue as to her future potential given they have been so keen to secure her half-sister.

A stakes-winning daughter of champion sire Written Tycoon, Shakespearean Lass unfortunately lost a colt foal last spring by Russian Camelot, who has posted encouraging results at the sales this year with his yearlings selling for up to $250,000.

A European blueblood by outstanding staying sire Camelot, Russian Camelot has maintained good numbers through his first three seasons at stud and covered 115 mares last spring.
