An I Am Invincible filly from the family of rising star three year-old Celestial Legend was an obvious choice as the One to Watch on Friday when she broke the ice at Kembla in style.
Trained by Chris Waller, three year-old filly Kirragirl was having her third start and has shown improvement from run to run with a fifth at Canterbury and last start second at Rosehill seeing her go to the post as favourite for the 1200m maiden.
She showed good speed for Tommy Berry and was on the pace throughout before forging clear to win by two lengths.
Kirragirl was a $425,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase from the Shadwell Stud Dispersal for Mulcaster Bloodstock and runs for members of the Flannery family.
Foaled and raised at Yarraman, Kirragirl is the third winner from three foals to race from Turaathy, a placed Redoute’s Choice mare that is a full sister to South African Group I winners Rafeef and Mustaqeem and three-quarter sister to the dam of last week’s Group I ATC Randwick Guineas winner Celestial Legend.
Turaathy was also sold in the Shadwell Dispersal and was bought by Tim Stakemire for $550,000 on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
Turaathy produced a filly by Street Boss (USA) last spring and is now in foal to Celestial Legend’s sire Dundeel.
