Back to Back Stakes Wins for Russian to the Bar

Tara Madgwick - Sunday March 3

A half-brother to $1.7million earning Group II winner Kissonallforcheeks, three year-old Russian Revolution gelding Russian to the Bar made it back to back stakes wins when taking out the Listed WATC Lex Piper Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday.

Trained by Luke Fernie and ridden by Chris Parnham, he scored a half length win as a short priced favourite taking his overall record to four wins from six starts with earnings topping $230,000.

Russian to the Bar was strong to the line and connections are hopeful of stretching him out to a classic trip with the Group II WATC Derby on April 13 on the radar.

A half-brother to Group II VRC Let's Elope Stakes winner and Group I Winterbottom Stakes runner-up Kissonallforcheeks, Russian To The Bar was a $200,000 buy for his trainer from the Dawson Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling Sale which he topped, having previously not made his reserve at the Classic Yearling Sale.

Foaled and raised at Newhaven Park for Dawson Stud, he is the third winner from four to race for the talented stakes-winning Blackfriars mare Rosie Rocket, who foaled a Capitalist filly last spring and is now in foal to Dundeel.
