Hellbent Mare Wins G2 Guy Walter Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 2

Quality mare Hinged won the Group I ATC Surround Stakes in 2022 and was well fancied to win the Group II ATC Guy Walter (1400m) on the same program two years later at Randwick today, but she was nosed out in a thriller by progressive Hellbent mare Hell Hath No Fury with both mares running in the colours of Brae Sokolski’s Yes Bloodstock.

Hell Hath No Fury started her career in Victoria with Danny O’Brien before being transferred to Annabel Neasham last year and has made swift progress in her current campaign working nicely through her grades to earn a crack at Black Type.

She surged to the line for Jason Collet to outgun Hinged and win by a nose.

“She's a mare in form and she was doing a good job all preparation but we came here more hopefully she'd run a nice race but it is brilliant to get the job done,” said Neasham.

"She's continued to improve. We were finding a bit more about her after all the time after coming from Melbourne.”

A $160,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Brae Sokolski, Hell Hath No Fury has the overall record of four wins and three placings from 16 starts with prizemoney in excess of $324,000.

She was bred by Yarraman and is a half-sister to Group III winner Montauk and stakes-placed Bright Diamond being the tenth winner from ten to race from terrific producer Diamond Cove, a stakes-winning daughter of Octagonal.

Hellbent

Hell Hath No Fury is the fifth stakes-winner for Hellbent, who is the leading Australian third season sire by earnings.
