Fastnet Rock Poised to Pounce

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 20

There is a changing of the guard looming on the Australian Broodmare Sires List with Fastnet Rock poised to pounce on division leader Encosta de Lago and the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes this Saturday holds the key.

The Champion Australian Sire of 2011/2012 and 2014/2015, Coolmore heavyweight Fastnet Rock could well take his first Champion Broodmare Sire title this season if the cards fall his way.

Fastnet Rock is sire of the dam of 15 Australian stakes-winners this season and is currently about $1million in arrears of Encosta de Lago on the leading broodmare sires list by earnings.

Fastnet Rock  is sire of the dam of two key runners in Saturday’s $2million Blue Diamond Stakes in Bodyguard (2c I Am Invincible) and Lady of Camelot (f Written Tycoon) and waiting in the wings is Golden Slipper favourite Storm Boy (c Justify (USA) with this trio offering the potential to power their dam sire to the top of the list.

However it must be said Encosta de Lago is going to take some catching as he is sire of the dam of Fangirl and this brilliant mare is looking down the barrel of a lucrative autumn if her return in the Group II Apollo Stakes last Saturday is any guide.

Fastnet Rock mares are fast becoming a very powerful force and their presence in a pedigree is a big positive.

There are four yearlings from Fastnet Rock mares to be offered at Perth Magic Millions this week, click here to see them and  below is Lot 37, Willow Dale Farm’s Zoustar colt from Clear Ripples.
