Pedigree Watch – Nicks that Click – Yarraman May Be on a Winner

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 19

When Yarraman Park announced they would add Brave Smash (Jpn) to their roster in April last year he had a promising filly on the horizon in Kimochi, who is now a Group II winner of nearly $900,000, but most interestingly of all she is from a daughter of Yarraman’s champion sire I Am Invincible.

With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Brave Smash is very much a work in progress with 24 winners from 45 runners giving him an encouraging 53% winners to runners strike rate and his 4.4% SW to runner stat is also looking good in comparison to his peers.

Kimochi is the second stakes-winner for Brave Smash joining Brave Mead with another Group III place-getter in Brave Strike, while ill-fated Brave Halo would almost certainly have become a stakes-winner having won three of five starts at two before his fourth in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes, which was sadly to be his last start.

Kimochi is a very significant result for Yarraman Park being the first runner for Brave Smash from a daughter of I Am Invincible and it only stands to reason this Japanese bred Group I winning sprinter will see a lot more of that bloodline going forward.

He covered 112 mares last spring at a fee of $33,000 and nine are by I Am Invincible highlighted by stakes-winner Espaaniyah, while two more are by I Am Invincible sons Hellbent and Brazen Beau and another Rubikai (Rubick) is from a daughter of I Am Invincible.

A Sunday Silence line sire that is completely Danehill free, Brave Smash also has a 4 x 4 double cross of Japan’s champion sire Northern Taste (Northern Dancer), who was the dominating force before Sunday Silence and he comes from a proven sire producing female family that has also delivered Daiwa Major.

He’s a very interesting proposition to breed to and particularly with I Am Invincible, who has some Northern Dancer blood of his own through Danzig via Green Desert and he also has a line of influential Sharpen Up sire Kris as does Brave Smash.

Below is the Hypo mating for Kimochi.
