One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 29
Being the last foal of celebrated producer Procrastinate by the great champion So You Think always made this filly a moral to be our ‘One to Watch’ on Wednesday when she opened her account at the ATC metro meeting Wyong.

A big filly that has been given time to mature and educated through a series of barrier trials, the Chris Waller trained Impulsive finally made her debut at Kembla on November 7 finishing third over 1300 metres.

With race fitness and experience on her side, Impulsive took up the lead this time for Kerrin McEvoy and led all the way before forging clear to win the 1350 metre maiden by more than a length.

Impulsive with her dam Procrastinate at Segenhoe in 2014A homebred for John Camilleri, who famously bred and sold not only Winx, but also Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, Impulsive carries his Fairway Thoroughbreds colours first made famous by AJC Derby winner Fairway back in 2000.

"She’s a very well bred filly and a good type by the right sire to keep on improving,” said Chris Waller.

"I think Mr Camilleri will have a lot of fun with her. We have big plans for her in the autumn.”

Impulsive is the last of 16 foals from Group III winner Procrastinate(now retired), who has had 15 of those foals race for 12 winners headed by five-time Group I winner and Champion South African Filly Laissefaire, Group III winner A Time for Julia and stakes-winners Time Thief, Foreplay and Personify.

Procrastinate came into the ownership of Fairway Thoroughbreds in 2007 when she was purchased from the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $660,000 when she was turning 17.

She produced a further seven foals for Fairway including A Time for Julia and was 24 when she foaled Impulsive. She is now in retirement at Segenhoe Stud.
