Super busy with a draft of 36 yearlings for Inglis Classic, the Vinery Stud team took a moment yesterday to watch the juvenile race at Sandown where Exceedance filly Flyer scored a debut win.
A homebred for Rosemont Stud, Flyer won in good style with her trainer Jason Warren indicating a start in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes was a possibility for the talented filly, read more about her here.
Flyer is the third winner from six Australian runners for Vinery Stud’s Exceedance, who already has his first stakes-winner on the board in Dublin Down, winner of the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate.
Exceedance has 16 to be offered at Inglis Classic and seven of them are in the Vinery Stud draft with the trio below tipped as well worth serious consideration by Vinery Stud’s Adam White.
Lot 297 Colt Exceedance x Gigi Girl, by More Than Ready (USA)
Third foal of three time winner by champion sire More Than Ready from the family of Group I winner Royal Merchant tracing back to fourth dam and celebrated blue hen Eau D’Etoile. Half-brother to Densetsu (3g Lonhro), a winner at his third start at Wyong on Thursday.
“A very athletic colt very much in the mould of his sire. He is from the More Than Ready mare Gigi Girl. We were quite keen to send a few More Than Ready mares to Exceedance. The Exceed And Excel/More Than Ready cross has produced the likes of Bivouac amongst others and it is great to see that Exceedance has already produced an early winner in Simply Tina from a More Than Ready mare. I think this particular colt will get up and go early and be a good representative of this cross.”
Lot 69 Colt Exceedance x Amberino, by Perugino (USA)
Half-brother to multiple Group winner Winter Bride, a winner of over $670,000 in prizemoney from Group II winner Amberino.
“This colt is an early December foal, but you would never pick it. He is quite strong and forward. When you look at his pedigree you can see why he looks quite forward as his mother Amberino was a Group 2 winner herself but is also the dam of multiple Group 3 and Group 1 placed sprinting mare Winter Bride.”
Lot 525 Colt Exceedance x Night Flyer, by All Too Hard
First foal of three time winning daughter of Group II winner Night War from the family of Group I winners Samaready (Blue Diamond) and Shinzo (Golden Slipper) with last week’s Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes winner Prost new to this fast and precocious family.
“He is another sharp looking colt that looks as if he will go quite early. Not a big colt but this is very typical of the family. His grand dam is the very fast Group 2 winner Night War, herself a half sister to Blue Diamond winner Samaready. Of course we saw Samaready produce last year’s Golden Slipper winner Shinzo.”

Lot 184 Filly Toronado (IRE) x Contango Miss, by Congrats (USA)
Fourth foal of unraced half-sister to Group II winner Tango’s Daughter and Group III placed Tango Rain.
“We have always rated this filly very highly. She is such a strong powerful filly that looks as though she will get up and go early. It would be no surprise to me to see her feature in some of the rich Inglis races or even some of the major two-year-old races next year.”
Lot 597 Colt Ole Kirk x Press Box, by Hinchinbrook
Second foal of metro winning full sister to dual Group I winner Press Statement and half-sister to Group I winner Press Day.
“We could not be happier with how the stock of Ole Kirk have been received at the sales. This particular colt is another very good example of the quality he puts into them. He might not be a get up and go early type horse, but one that could be a nice late two-year-old runner that progresses well into the three-year-old season. His mother is a sister to Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement, a race that Ole Kirk of course also won.”
Lot 650 Filly Ole Kirk x Rosey de Geneve (Fr), by Tapit
Dam has now had two to race both winners with Oakfield Mamselle winning twice since the catalogue went to print for the Kris Lees stable. While dam is by champion US sire Tapit, the family is all European elite and features Champion French 3YO Colt and champion sire Lope de Vega.
“This is a very attractive filly that has a good amount of quality. Her mother was a two time winner at two and considering Ole Kirk won a stakes races on debut at two and was also a Group 1 placed juvenile you would think this filly has every chance of running early.”
