Written Tycoon Filly Lady Of Camelot Stakes Her Claim for Golden Slipper

Mark Smith - Saturday February 3

It's getting to be a bit of a broken record; Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott add to their Golden Slipper arsenal with Lady Of Camelot delighting her army of supporters in the $250,000 Group III Widden Stakes (1100m) for 2-year-old fillies at Rosehill.

Making her first appearance since finishing fourth in the Group III Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick in September, the daughter of Written Tycoon made all the running to reverse the decision of her Gimcrack conqueror Manaal by three lengths. The daughter of Tassort finished resolutely carrying her 3kg penalty.

The Pierata debutant Wave Breaker was a long neck back in third, adding to a stellar day for Yulong's first season sire after Coleman captured the Group III  MRC Chairman's Stakes at Caulfield and Fearless was a troubled second in the Group III Canonbury Stakes.

A homebred for Sir Owen Glenn's Go Bloodstock,  Lady Of Camelot is the third consecutive stakes-winner for the Fastnet Rock mare Miss Debutante after 4-time Group III winner Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible), who won the Wiiden in 2022, and the Group III Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar) who was runner-up in the Silver Slipper and Magic Millions 2yo Classic.

t;She's got so much natural speed. A brilliant filly for Sir Owen Glenn and his team at Go Bloodstock, they've been great supporters," Bott said.

"She's a beautifully bred, well-related filly. Her first two progeny have also been stakes-winning two-year-olds, so she becomes the third in just three foals. The dam is obviously very valuable.

"Once he (Tim Clark) was able to change it (the whip) over she really found another gear and lengthened very impressively. That last furlong was very sharp."

Tim Clark said the daughter of Written Tycoon is a little professional.

"She's done a great job. She wouldn't break the ice; she's so light on her feet," Clark said.

"She's got such a good cruising speed, that's what we wanted to use. The good thing about her, though, is she rests within herself when she's there.

"She got a little bit lost up the straight still, so I think there's still a little more to give. But she couldn't have been any more impressive.

"I think she's just naturally so fast, I think trying to harness her too much would take away from her asset When I asked her for another effort she lengthened really well, it was a strong effort."

Purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $430,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Miss Debutante carried Go Bloodstock's yellow, white checked sash to four wins from eight starts highlighted by the Listed Denise's Joy Stakes at Scone.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock has a yearling colt by Flying Artie and was covered by Zoustar last spring after foaling a sister to Queen Of The Ball (I Am Invincible).

Lady Of Camelot is the 60th stakes-winner for Yulong Stud's flagship stallion, Written Tycoon.
