2YO Stakes Racing – Saturday Sale Mail

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 1

Autumn juvenile racing is gaining momentum with the Group III MRC Chairman’s stakes at Caulfield and the Group III ATC Widden Stakes and Canonbury Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, so let’s take a look at the Sale Mail.

The Group III MRC Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) has two spring stakes-winners engaged in the Pierata colt Coleman and expensive Exceed and Excel filly Eneeza and it’s hard to see anything else winning.

Both horses have form around Arabian Summer, who acquitted herself well in the Magic Millions lead up, and looked good in their respective stakes wins, so this might not be the last time they meet.

The Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes (1100m) has plenty of intrigue with a last start winner from Melbourne in Traffic Warden, some unraced colts showing up at the trials in Enhance and Excelindeed (both colts acceptors at Canterbury Friday night also) , while the Breeders Plate form will be tested by Fearless and Prost, who were fourth and third in that race before spelling.

Both colts have trialled well and are drawn to be competitive if good enough.

The Group III ATC Widden Stakes (1100m) sees the return of Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Manaal with a couple of the fillies that chased her home that day in Alinea and Lady of Camelot also in the mix and both have trialled brilliantly.

The unraced brigade are packed with interest featuring youngsters by first season sires Pierata and Brutal, while Celerity is an interesting one for Godolphin, a rare Inglis Easter purchase for them at $850,000.

Anthony Cummings had a lot of success with Extreme Choice filly She’s Extreme and takes the wraps off another of his daughters in Extreme Diva, a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for DGR Thoroughbreds that has also looked promising in her trials.
