Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 30

Four heats for juveniles at Warwick Farm on Tuesday featured some interesting winners – three with siblings in upcoming sales - including two by first season sires Alabama Express and Zousain, plus we had another look at exciting I Am Invincible colt Anode, an easy debut winner for the all conquering Waterhouse Bott stable back in December.

Anode was having his second trial back and went forward to lead and did enough to win with Inglis Millennium contenders Odinson and Zestiman both close up.

Anode was passed in and retained by Evergreen Stud, but his half-brother by Maurice (Jpn) is headed to Inglis Premier as Lot 416, so all eyes will be on Anode to see if he can enhance the pedigree before March.

The Waterhouse Bott stable also sent out Chateau Miraval for her second trial this prep and she duly won again and the record priced daughter of Zousain looks ready for race day.

A $650,000 Magic Millions purchase from Rosemont Stud for Yu Long Investments (Australia) Pty Ltd/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Chateau Miraval has the distinction of being the highest priced yearling from the first crop of Zousain and is a three-quarter sister to Group II winner North Star Lass, who was also trained by Waterhouse and Bott.

Zousain also had the second placed filly in this heat with Drifting closing off nicely behind Written Tycoon filly Mrs Maree, who disappointed at her only start when an unplaced favourite at Canterbury behind Rag Queen.

Mrs Maree was a $500,000 Magic Millions purchase and her half-brother by Maurice (Jpn) will be offered at Inglis Classic by Twin Hills Stud as Lot 255.

Alabama Express has four first crop winners so far and looks like more in the pipeline including this nice prospect trained by John O’Shea. A homebred for Yulong that never went through a sale, Walk the Pier did everything right sitting outside the leader and was ridden along to win.

Yulong will offer the full sister to Walk the Pier at Inglis Premier as Lot 102. The filly is the fourth foal of Amazing Pier, an unraced Pierro mare from a big US Black Type family that features Princess Grace (USA), a multiple Group winner in the US that has been Group I placed in Australia.
