After joining the Chris Waller stable following a brief period with the Maher Eustace team, Durston shot to fame with successive wins in the Wyong Gold Cup and Newcastle Gold Cup before his barnstorming victory over subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip (Fr) in the $5million Caulfield Cup.

A shock scratching before the Melbourne Cup due to a vet issue with a scan, we will never know whether Durston would have won that Cup, but fit and sound he’d have been in the finish!

Durston will undergo rehabilitation before a decision is made on his ultimate retirement home.

Thanks for the memories!
