Caulfield Cup Winner Durston Retired

Highclere Racing Australia have today announced the retirement of high class stayer Durston (GB), who has not raced since winning the 2022 Group I MRC Caulfield Cup.

After joining the Chris Waller stable following a brief period with the Maher Eustace team, Durston shot to fame with successive wins in the Wyong Gold Cup and Newcastle Gold Cup before his barnstorming victory over subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip (Fr) in the $5million Caulfield Cup.

A shock scratching before the Melbourne Cup due to a vet issue with a scan, we will never know whether Durston would have won that Cup, but fit and sound he’d have been in the finish!

 

Durston will undergo rehabilitation before a decision is made on his ultimate retirement home.
