Family Favourites and Nicks that Click - Karaka 2024

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Monday January 22

Good families are good families because they keep delivering stakes horses and there is no better way of increasing your chances of success than buying into them and we’ve found a few with current horses involved that are on the up.

The 2024 NZB National Yearling Sale Series – Books 1 and 2 - (January 28 – February 2) features the best yearlings New Zealand has to offer and we’ve gone looking for something interesting in the mix!

Sudbina is a G3 winner from a famous family - Photo: Peter Rubery (Race Images Palmerston North)

Well bred Almanzor (FR) filly Sudbina won the Group III Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham on Saturday and it won’t be the last stakes win for the half-sister to Champion NZ 3YO Filly Fix, read about her here.

Sudbina is the latest stakes-winner from an elite European female family tracing to Group I Cheveley Park Stakes winner Prophecy featuring imported Australian multiple Group I winner Foreteller (GB) and there is one entry from it at Karaka Book 1.

Velocious is on track for the 2YO Karaka Million.

Brilliant 2YO filly Velocious will be favourite this weekend for the Karaka Millions following a three start career so far that has  produced two dominant wins and a very close second in the Group II Eclipse Stakes.

Velocious is the third foal and third two year-old winner from Snitzel mare Parmalove, a winning half-sister to stakes-winners Loved Up and Liesele, the dam of this season’s promising debut 2YO winner The Victress. The fourth foal of Parmalove will be offered at Book 1.

Orchestral is looking like a potential new SW for Savabeel and her famous family.

Lightly raced filly Orchestral has the x factor about her and while she hasn’t won a stakes race yet, she could well give Karaka 3YO Millions favourite Molly Bloom a run for her money this weekend.

An expensive $625,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from Haunui Farm with a big pedigree, Orchestral comes from the family of G1 winners Atishu, Daffodil and Aegon going back to Good Faith, the Champion NZ 2YO Filly of 1997. As you would imagine there is a lot of this family at Karaka Book 1 including the full brother to Orchestral.
