Saturday’s Magic Millions program at the Gold Coast is one of the most popular race days on the turf calendar and considered the ‘place to be’ and supporters of leading Queensland stallion, Better Than Ready, would know all about that with 11 of his runners – yep, that’s right, 11! – featuring in the star studded program.
Group 2 Callander / Presnell winner, Chrysaor – with nearly a $1 million in the bank already – has a red hot go at adding the $3 million MM 3YO Guineas to the coffers and will be joined in the field by last start Eagle Farm winner, Trifling.
Chrysaor has a full sister to be offered on Saturday night as Lot 1005.
Alpine Edge, Better Get Set and Steady Ready present a three pronged attack in the $1 million QTIS Open … The Vowels has a good shot at the $1 million Subzero … and Beast Mode, Bossed Up and Clover’s Prince are all shaping up for a tilt at the $1 million The Syndicate.
And don’t dismiss the chances of Peter & Will Hulbert’s The Hamo, who has his first start in the $500k MM 2YO C&Gs Plate after handily winning his Doomben trial in December.
The Chris Waller trained, Chrysaor is one of the most exciting colts in the nation and should give the Guineas a mighty shake. Initially sold for $60,000 by Yarramalong Park as a weanling, he was later pinhooked to the Gold Coast Magic Millions where he was knocked down to Star Thoroughbreds for $115,000.
A victory for Alpine Edge in the QTIS Open would also take this $160k yearling buy to $2.5 million in stakes.
Jeff Kruger, who stands Better Than Ready at his Lyndhurst Stud property, believes his stallion offers incredible value for breeders and buyers alike.
“At the end of the day, owners just want to get a horse to the races and even better still if it’s a program with eight million dollar races on it!,” Kruger points out.
“From Better Than Ready’s first two crops alone he got 168 of his 184 foals (91%) to the races and he’s currently batting around 66% winners to runners.
“As for breeders, Better Than Ready had one sell on the Coast last year for $530,000 while, at the current sale, they’re selling up to 10 times service fee.
“I’m very happy to say that we (Lyndhurst Stud) will be selling (as Lot 1345) a Better Than Ready three quarter sister to his Group 1 winner Apache Chase in Book 2 of the sale.
“If he ends up with a couple of winners on Saturday, at least punters won’t have to come far to look for the next one!”
Better Than Ready has had seven yearlings sell so far at an average $151,429 and has 27 more yearlings to be offered through Books 1 and 2, click to see them.
