Group Two Winner for Al Maher

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 16
Fresh from siring a stakes double in Perth on the weekend with Silverstream and Money Maher, Aquis Farm's Al Maher sired his third stakes-winner of the week on Wednesday.

Al MaherAlready a stakes-winner, talented Al Maher five year-old Son of Maher scored the biggest win of his career when dead heating for a shared victory in the Group II Coupland's Bakeries Mile at Riccarton in New Zealand.

Fellow dead-heater Shadows Cast raced outside the leader and held a strong gallop to the post while Son Of Maher raced in behind the pace and speared between runners close to home to get his share of the victory in the 1600 metre feature.

"He just got held up and he takes a while to get going, it cost him," said Matthew Pitman, who trains Son Of Maher with his father Michael.

"There is the Thorndon Mile in January for him going forward, there's some nice races still come."

A $42,500 Inglis Easter purchase from the Attunga Stud draft, Son of Maher has the overall record of six wins and seven placings from 23 starts with prizemoney in excess of $255,000.

One of 34 stakes-winners by Aquis Farm's ever reliable Al Maher, he is a full brother to stakes-winner Dance With Her and is from stakes-winner Dance Hit, who was covered again by Al Maher last spring.
