New Winner for Blue Hen - Prolific Sales Family

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 27

Not many broodmares produce 11 winners and fewer still can claim six of them as stakes-winners!

When four year-old Pierro mare Pinotage saluted at Geelong on Wednesday she added her name to the long list of winners left by star producer Imposingly, honoured in 2017 as the New Zealand Broodmare of the Year.

Pinotage was retained by her New Zealand based breeders and sent to Mike Moroney to train. She’s been given all the time in the world and only made her debut in May this year, but has made good progress in her current preparation and relished the step out to 2270m to score a dominant two and a half length win making light of the heavy track.

Pinotage is the 11th winner from 12 foals to race out of winning Zabeel mare Imposingly and is a sibling to two time NZ Horse of the Year and triple Group I winner Bonneval, Group II winner Lord Arthur and Group III winners Imposing Lass, Full of Spirit and Lady Cumquat as well as stakes-winner The Frontman.

Imposingly turned 21 this year and produced a filly by Maurice (Jpn) on October 7. She has an unnamed two year-old filly by The Autumn Sun and a three year-old Dissident gelding called The Patron Saint trained by Andrew Forsman that is entered for a maiden at Rotorua on Thursday for his third start, so all eyes will be on him!

It’s a prolific sales family and when you search it through Breednet throws up 12 entries for upcoming sales, click here to see them.
