The admirably consistent Rich Enuff filly Abounding earned a just reward with a first stakes success in Saturday's $200,000 Listed Channel 7 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
Ridden by Martin Harley for Robert Heathcote, Abounding did best in a driving finish to defeat the Spirit Of Boom filly Avone by a short-head, with a head back to the Astern gelding Show Me Mercy in third.
It was a stakes victory not out of turn as Abounding finished second in the Group III Ken Russell Memorial Classic, second in the Listed Mode Stakes, second in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes, and third in the Listed Oxlade Stakes.
A $75,000 buy for First Light Racing/Robert Heathcote Racing from the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft from Book 2 of the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Abounding advances her record to three wins, four seconds, and two thirds from ten starts with earnings of $393,700.
"She has been working super, and her last run was brilliant as was her win before that. She is on the second line of betting for the $3million 3yo race (Guineas on Magic Millions day), and that's where we are going," Heathcote said.
"Whether we go straight there or give her another run in the Vo Rogue (Plate), we will see after she pulls up.
"Martin did not have a lot of luck on her last start when she was heavily backed. She was heavily backed again today – I don't want it over again, but she has won a Listed race, which is fantastic for First Light Racing.
"She is one of the flagbearers for the team now, and she is going super."
Abounding is the best of four winners from five to race for the 4-time winning Casino Prince mare Transonic, which carried the Patinack colours to a third in the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes and third in the Listed Ethereal Stakes.
Transonic's dam Jet Past (SAF) (Jet Master) was a 4-time winner and twice Group 1-placed. Her dam, Rather Rich (Star Way), is the daughter of the Group III-winning Sir Tristram mare Touch Of Silver, a half-sister to the champion Petrava.
Telemon has entered Transonic's Russian Camelot colt in the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and Inglis Classic.
Abounding is the sixth stakes-winner for Woodside Park Stud’s Written Tycoon stallion Rich Enuff, whose lightly raced son Union Army looks a surefire future winner after storming home into third place behind Boston Rocks and Infatuation over 1100m at Randwick on Saturday.
